Lost

Friday, March 20th, 2009

I may have been lost in World of Warcraft but that doesn’t mean I haven’t still been following the best show on TV, namely Lost.

I’ve really been enjoying season 5 and just wanted to take the time to post my thoughts about the main cast at the moment.

Firstly let me start with my favourite character… that award goes to ‘Juliet’. I guess that is probably a surprise choice given the fact that she has not been in Lost since the beginning. I can’t really explain what it is about her but, ever since she started appearing in Lost a few seasons ago I have really come to enjoy her more and more as time goes on. I also see from surfing around the net though that I am not alone in cheering for Juliet. I think that really is a great achievement for the actress Elizabeth Mitchell to come in to an established show and play a character that has become so popular. Lots of respect.

Well after my favourite character, the next tier of characters I enjoy watching include, John Locke, Sawyer, Sayid, Ben, Desmond and Miles.

In my indifferent list we then have Sun, Jin, Hurley and Daniel.

And in my, bloody hell they’re really starting to annoy me… Jack and Kate… which is scary given the fact they are considered near the top of the main characters. Jack is really getting on my nerves and ranks as the character I’d most love to see get killed off even though that is very unlikely to happen… I truly wish he hadn’t come back to the Island. And although I’ve not minded Kate in the past it’s probably the fact that, as Juliet and Sawyer were very happy together, I don’t particularly want to see Kate stuffing things up for them.

Anyway… just felt like telling the world how much I still liked Lost…. and particularly Juliet :-)

Dr Horrible is far from horrible…

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Last night I was idly surfing around the Xbox 360 dashboard and decided to download a video entitled “The Guild.” I found it to be a quite amusing little series of webcasts about a bunch of addicted computer geeks playing a World of Warcraft clone…

Anyway, after watching a few episodes I looked up the show on Wikipedia and was very impressed to see that the lead actress of the show was pretty much responsible for it’s whole existence. This actress, Felicia Day, impressed me and I  decided to surf over to her webpage to learn more… geez, a self confessed internet/gaming junkie and yet very attractive! Truly a rarity and not surprisingly a true pin-up girl for the male gaming population! She truly does sound like a gamer’s perfect girlfriend!

Anyway… I read on her page that she recommended, if interested in seeing more of what she had done, to begin by checking out “Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog“. Ok… why not, I have nothing better to do so I downloaded a copy last night and stuck it on my Ipod today to watch at lunchtime.

OMG!!!! What an awesome production!!! I LOVED IT!!! I need to buy it on DVD asap!

I don’t want to spoil it too much by saying a lot about it other than, if you’re looking for something to watch and, like me, had missed this when first released last year, you need to go find it now!!!

“Dude, where’s my head?”

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

I have no idea where the phrase “Dude, where’s my head?” comes from but it is something Quinn keeps saying quite regularly… I always thought it was Dude, where’s my car? But anyway… if anybody knows a kid show where this phrase gets said please let me know!

Talking of “Dude, where’s my head?”… bit of a shocker on Prison Break this week! Very sad but I don’t think, based on the uproar from many fans on the Prison Break forums, that it will spoil my enjoyment of season 3… enjoying it very much so far!

Lost Heroes and webpages…

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Well I’ve now got to the end of season 1 of Heroes and the end of season 3 of Lost and, as I had watched the end of season 2 of Prison Break a few weeks ago this now means I have nothing new to look forward to watch each week for a while! :(

Still, this break in TV viewing has meant I have finally updated Quinn, Zoe and Leon’s webpages… something I was long overdue in needing to do. I’ve also been continuing to tinker with LibNET, particularly in getting it some promotion to bring in a few more visitors. So far so good, the counter may only be around 450 but I’m pleased with how knowledge of the site’s rebirth is slowly filtering through the web.

Subject to the #mylene wiki which I need to kick along again soon I’m at least feeling quite satisfied that my web empire is relatively well updated at the moment and that I’m on top of things!

Maybe I’ll even find some time now to tidy up the computer room and even bother to formally apply for my Australian Citizenship… which is something else I’m long overdue in getting done.

PS - I’m currently eating a pack of garlic peanuts whilst I write this blog entry and geez, they’re strong in flavour!!!… I wonder if Muppet may notice later!!!

The modern age of lego

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Firstly let me say yay! Finally watched the last episode of Amazing Race Asia tonight so at least that is one TV addiction out of the way again… I love watching these shows but I have a mixed attitude when I get to the end of them. On one hand it is a pity there is nothing more to watch but on the other hand I’m glad to get some of my life back and know that I no longer need to be obsessed in “just watching one more episode”.

Anyway, the above was not really the reason for this post… instead it was to say that, whilst out at the shops this afternoon, I brought Quinn a new small lego set being a Doctor’s car.

This is probably the first item of new lego I have purchased in 20+ years and it was interesting to see how much it had changed… although the lego men are still the same the pieces to make up the car are so much more slinky. I’m not sure yet as to whether this is a good or a bad thing. It certainly results in a car that is much better looking than I have ever previously made from Lego but it does make me wonder as to whether the pieces are too specific for the particular model that the creativeness of being able to use the bits to build 101 other things may be lost?

However, it was fun to help Quinn work through the little instruction manual on how to build the car and watch him carefully build it all together. He certainly enjoyed it and I guess that is all that matters… although it is nice that we already have a good base of lego to start with I also now look forward to buying other new kits and building them with him :)

Couch potato

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I realise I haven’t posted to the blog for a whole week! And unfortunately I have no excuse other than that I have been spending most of my free time watching TV!

I’ve now reached episode 17 of Heroes which has meant watching at least 1 or 2 episodes each night for the last week. I’ve also been watching Amazing Race Asia Edition with Muppet too which means we’ve tended to watch at least one episode of that per night too…

So, to show what a boring week I have here is my typical evening schedule:-

5:40pm to 6:00pm - arrive home from work.
6:00pm to 7:30pm - Eat dinner, play with the little guys
7:30pm to 8:00pm - Get all 3 little guys to go to sleep, easier said than done!
8:00pm to 9:00pm - Usually watch an episode of Amazing Race Asia
9:00pm to 10:30pm - Muppet goes to bed and I watch one or two episodes of Heroes (or a new Lost or Prison Break dependent on the day of the week)
10:30pm to 11:00pm - waste time surfing a few sites on the net
11:00pm-ish - Bed!

Exciting life eh? Oh well… 1 more episode of Heroes to watch and then I’m stuck waiting like everybody else until nearly the end of April!

HighQ?

Friday, March 16th, 2007

After watching another episode of Heroes last night I surfed around Wikipedia to learn more about the cast members and was particularly interested to note that Masi Oka who plays Hiro on the show also works as a special effects technician for Industrial Light & Magic. He is obviously a very clever guy and according to a further article I read he supposedly has a IQ of 180!

If you are not aware of how good an IQ this is, check out “What different IQ scores mean” where you will see 180 is way off the top of the scale!

Anyway, this made me interested as to what my own IQ was so I took an online test courtesy of IQTest.com.

My resulting IQ was 141… which according to the page noted above “Over 140 - Genius or near genius”… Ok, so am I a genius or is this test flawed? Interestingly I remembered I had taken a similar test online before so dug deep into my emails to find the result of a similar test I took about a year ago to be 137. Yay! I’m 4 IQ points more intelligent this year?

Given the fact I’ve taken two tests and scored relatively similar in both tests I’ll assume I have a near genius IQ! Makes me feel good anyway! :)

With such a high IQ maybe I should now plot to take over the world? *HA*HA*HA*HA* (Evil laugh!)

Heroes discovered… Charlotte revisited

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

When I was visiting one of my regular haunts on the net a few days ago I noticed a poll about what is the best show on TV. Curious to see how the only two shows rated that I regular watch, namely Prison Break and Lost, I was surprised to see these rank 2nd and 3rd… in 1st place was ‘Heroes

Now although I had heard about this show I had not really given it a second thought until I saw how far ahead it was on this poll from Prison Break and Lost. Hmmm… so if people voting here obviously like my 2 shows it is likely that this show that beats both must perhaps be worth a look.

I have therefore now watched episodes 1 to 4 of Heroes and WOW! I’m VERY impressed… I kick myself for not checking out this show sooner although at least I now have something else to watch whilst I wait for the next episodes of Prison Break and Lost! And, in typical US tv schedule fashion, I note Heroes is on a break now until late April anyway which will give me more than enough time to catch up and no doubt be hanging out for the next episode…

To think I hardly watched anything regular a few years ago and now I have 3 must have shows in my life!!!

In other news, whilst feeling bored at work today (perhaps because I have no superhuman power and felt therefore that life seemed dull!) I decided to go for a walk out at lunchtime and found myself sitting in a nearby park listening to music on my MP3 player… and, although I have a few new albums upon it to listen to, I found myself going back to Charlotte Gainsbourg’s ‘5:55′ album

A long term reader of this blog may remember I raved about this album back in September last year and I have to say, 6 months later, this is still a brilliant album… must be the Daddy Gainsbourg influence in the music but this album really has got to be in my Top 3 albums of 2006. Anyway, just thought I’d rave about it again so that somebody who reads this might take the time to check it out and have a listen! Go on, you know you want to!

TV and games…

Saturday, May 7th, 2005

Spent most of this evening playing Forza Motorsport on the X-Box. I had played the demo of this a few months ago and kinda wrote it off at that time as ‘just another car game’ but now I have been playing the full version I have to say it is one of the best driving games on the X-Box. It may not have the high speed arcade fun of games such as Rallisport 2 but, for a more simulation style racing game it is excellent. Cars actually do feel different to drive rather than just looking cosmetically different on screen. I think this game should keep me amused for quite a while… which is probably a good thing as I don’t see many other forthcoming new releases that interest me much.

Also caught up tonight with the latest episode of Lost. I watched the first episode some months ago when it was shown on Australian TV but, in typical Wuggle fashion, I did not have the patience to wait for the following episodes and thus have since been itching each week to grab a copy from the U.S. However, it is kinda frustrating now that I’ve caught up as tonight’s episode seemed to finish no sooner than it began and yet again I’m left eagerly awaiting the next episode. So ok, I confess I am a ‘Lost’ fan… kicks ass over the likes of ‘24′ in my opinion.

Oh and also watched the latest episode of Amazing Race 7 last night… yay the crusties are gone and Rob and Amber are back at no.1! Only the season finale to go… Can’t wait!

And for anybody interested in what else I watch on TV here is my current viewing habits:-

Amazing Race, Lost, CSI Vegas, CSI Miami, CSI NY (although Vegas is by far the best), Cold Case, Without A Trace, Everybody Loves Raymond.

Damn I look at that list and see I’ve been americanised… hmmm…. I officially am not watching anything derived from the UK or Australia at the moment… rather sad but that is the way it is. To be absolutely honest I could cut out CSI Miami and NY and would not miss them but, as Muppet watches them, I tend to still follow these.

What could I watch that is Australian I wonder?… well… yet another season of Big Brother starts tomorrow night but I’m not sad enough to start watching that surely? Hmmm… we’ll see!
